I was approached by Aidil of Malaysian power pop band, Couple, to cover one of their tracks from their debut 2006 release, “Top Of The Pops”.
This is in conjunction with the vinyl release of their stellar debut that they are planning to release soon. Out of the 11 tracks in the album, I chose “It Don’t Mean Much”, a theme that seems to be fitting for these MCO days.
Me and Aidil go way back, to my early high school days. I would usually hang out with him at my neighbour’s house (brothers Syukri and Ramzi) and talk about music and crack stupid jokes for hours. Aidil and Ramzi would introduce us to a wide range of music, centred around bands such as The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Who and much more.
I also discovered one of my favourite power pop bands, Snug, through Aidil.
I had a great time working on this cover, and at times, it would send me back to those simpler days.
How time flies.
